Wednesday, March 14, 2012 -  Tips and Tricks for Quilters What new tips and tricks do you have to share with your fellow quilters?

About Our Monthly Meetings........

 Program meetings are held:

  •  At the North Chevy Chase Christian Church, 8814 Kensington Parkway, Chevy Chase, MD 20815 (click here for directions.)
  • The 2nd Wednesday of each month from September through July;
  • 9:30 – 10 am - Coffee and Calories Social
  • 10 am -12 pm - Announcements, Speaker, Show and Tell

Programs reflect the varied interests of our membership ranging from:

  • Nationally-recognized fiber artists such as Susan Brubaker Knapp and Patsy Thompson to equally impressive local quilt teachers such as Cindy Souder, and Didi Salvatierra.
  • Our annual Quilt-A-Thon benefiting a local non-profit organization.
  • Demo Day where members share their skills and expertise.
  • Workshops that provide in-depth, hands-on methods to expand your quilting repertoire. (Workshops require advance enrollment and may be limited in number of participants.)
  • Road Trips to various quilt-related venues such as museums and quilt shops.

"Brown Bag Meetings"

  • Informal gatherings held directly after the scheduled meetings.
  • May tie into the subject of the program or can be an independent topic of interest. 
  • Past brown bag opportunities have been demonstrations of techniques, discussions of quilting questions, and sharing commentary on quilting DVDs. 
  • We are always open to new topics to explore.
  • Members are encouraged to bring a "brown bag" lunch if desired.

Monday, April 9, 2012 -  Workshop with Joen Wolfrom - "A Celebration of Color" - Have you ever been apprehensive about selecting fabrics for your quilt projects? If so, join Joen to see how easy it is to pick the winning colors and fabrics for your quilt projects. Find out what companion colors work best with your favorite color, how you can create your own dynamically-colored quilts, and how you can use your favorite colors to their fullest potential. Also, learn how easy it is to work intuitively with color through visual coloring. You’ll be amazed at how much you will learn in one day of color play!

Tuesday, April 10, 2012 - Workshop with Joen Wolfrom -  "A Marriage of Blocks" - Create beautiful original traditional designs by learning how to use blending-block and exploding- block design techniques. You will be surprised at how easy it is to create exciting new designs with many of our much-loved traditional patterns. By the end of class, you should have at least one new design to use in a future quilt.

Wednesday, April 11, 2012 -  Joen Wolfrom Lecture: "It's The Color That Makes The Quilts Go ---Wow!".  Take a journey into the world of color, finding clues to basic color ideas and such wonderful illusions as luminosity, luster, depth, shadow, and highlights.  Joen will give a slide show on eye-catching, show-stopping quilts that go WOW with color as you learn more about the magic of color.

Tuesday, May 8, 2012 - Workshop with Laura Wasilowski  - "Colorful Leaves" - Learn the basic principles of designing artwork (like repetition, variety, and contrast) and make a colorful leaf quilt at the same time.  Creating art is easy with fused fabrics and is the perfect way to learn about the elements that make a well designed quilt.   

Wednesday, May 9, 2012 - Laura Wasilowski - Lecture:  "So Many Chickens, So Little Time: Diary of a Serial Quilter".  Explore the artist's quirky mind with this lecture about quilt making in a series. 

   
Wednesday, June 13, 2012 - Trip to Winterthur, DE - Special tour of the Museum and their quilt collection    
     
     

Monthly Bees

  • 4th Wednesday of each month (except November and December)
  • Hosted by members in their homes.
  • Sit and Sew - Members come to work on a project of their own in the company of other NeedleChasers members.
  • “Boutique Bees” specialty meetings where techniques of projects for the Artisan Boutique are constructed.  Members wanting to sit and sew on their own projects are ALWAYS welcomed!
